Job Title: Research Associate III (Laboratory Design)
Location: Cambridge, MA - 02139 (Onsite Role) Duration: 12 Months Contract Important Skills/Experience Needed: - Candidate should have experience with lab space and design.
- Production line design is also relevant.
- Chemistry lab design experience is preferred.
- Team building between architects, stakeholders, vendors etc is required.
Description: Responsible for collaborating with relevant stakeholders to help design Process Chemistrys Laboratories of the Future including a wide range of custom high value equipment. Will be responsible for coordinating the groups relocation to the new Facilities, as well as decommissioning of the old ones.
Accountabilities: Responsible for interfacing with external groups including facilities, EH&S, space planning, architects, and engineers to design Process Chemistrys Laboratories of the Future
Responsible for collecting, collating, and formatting PCD user requirements with respect to the expected (current and future) use of the lab space as well as the functional requirements of the future lab space
Responsible for working with external vendors and internal SMEs to collect information and understand the technical requirements of individual pieces of equipment and their interaction with other equipment. Will ensure all equipment can be safely and optimally accommodated in the future lab space
Responsible for reviewing and providing feedback on technical and architectural drawings as received from external groups. Will coordinate their internal review within PCD and work to reach consensus in situations where differing opinions and priorities may exist.
Responsible for working with external vendors to design custom pieces of equipment such as Fumehoods and kilo-laboratory equipment. Will review drawings, collate feedback from SMEs and work with vendors to refine designs
Will be the primary contact from PCD overseeing construction of the new facilities, procurement and installation of the new equipment
Once construction is complete will coordinate the relocation to the new Facilities and decommissioning of the existing ones
Will act as PCD's primary point of contact with external groups including facilities and IT for issues pertaining to the smooth operation of the laboratory space during the duration of the project
Will work with external vendors and internal SMEs to schedule and coordinate laboratory equipment repair and preventative maintenance. Vendors include Mettler Toledo, Huber, Shimadzu and others.
Responsible for ordering and maintaining key consumables within the laboratory
Responsible for coordinating waste (hazardous and other) management and removal
Responsible for coordinating equipment moves within the laboratory, to/from offsite storage, and other locations as required.
Works with departmental and/or cross functional peers to execute on assignments, under limited supervision.
Contributes significantly to project work which may include multiple projects within functional area.
Identifies complex technical issues, and implements solutions under supervision
Contributes to the design of new applications/experiments/unit operations in consultation with supervisor.
Coordinates within department as well as cross functionally with peers on projects
Education/Experience/Skills: Associates degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science and 4+ years relevant industry experience
Bachelors degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 2+ years relevant industry experience
Masters degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacy, engineering or related pharmaceutical science; 0+ years relevant industry experience
Experience working in laboratories and/ or a pilot plant a plus
Experience working in a laboratory design firm a plus
Knowledge and Skills: Analytical and Problem Solving Skills -Able to troubleshoot critical issues or problems and resolve routine issues using appropriate information.
Teamwork -- Ability to work within department groups/team.
Communication Skills - Expresses ones self clearly and concisely within function; documents issues and/or concerns concisely with colleagues; timely and effectively communicates issues to supervisor

Travel Requirements: May require approximately 5% travel. •
